Be Aware Of Joomla Developer Impersonation Scams
Joomla site owners have been getting emails from "Fotis Evangelou", founder of the K2 extension, sent from a Gmail address with his name on it. The story goes that Joomla support phoned about your website, the sender already manages it, and there is an October deadline you cannot afford to miss. None of it is true. The real Fotis sent nothing. I recognised it for what it was, played along for an evening, screenshotted every message, and traced the sender to Lagos. Their own invoicing platform leaked the merchant details for me.
What they actually want is a Super User account on your site and $550 via a fake invoice. Fotis is not the only well-known Joomla name being borrowed for this either. The takeaway is short: an email from a familiar name is a claim, not proof. Never create an account or pay anyone because an email told you to. Verify through a channel you already trust, then decide.
On a calmer note, I have also published four new guides this week. One shows how to check template overrides across a hundred or more Joomla sites without opening each one. One explains the File Checksum Failed error during a Joomla update and how to clear it. One fixes the Class "JPlugin" not found error that bites old plugins on Joomla 5 and 6. And one explains what the Joomla 3.x UTD fork is, and why you do not need it.
All of it is free to read on the blog.
