Upgrade 100s of Sites from One Dashboard

Upgrade 100s of Sites from One Dashboard

One of the most popular reasons for using mySites.guru is being able to upgrade Joomla and WordPress core across all your sites without logging into each one individually. Here’s how the process works: back up, upgrade, verify.

After logging in, the left menu shows how many Core Updates are needed. In this example, 15 sites need a core update (and 59 plugins/extensions, but we’ll focus on core for now).

Go to the Scheduled Backups page and open the schedules tab. For Joomla, mySites.guru uses Akeeba Backup (free or paid, both work). You can back up one site at a time or click “Start Backup Of All Sites” to queue them all at once.

Backups are queued and run in the background - you don’t need to stay on the page. Once you’re happy everything is backed up, move to the upgrades. (Periodically test your restores too - an untested backup is just a file that makes you feel better.)

Open the “Mass Upgrade Sites” tool. It fetches available upgrade paths from your sites, which takes a few seconds. Select individual sites or click “Select All,” then hit the green button.

Mass Upgrade Sites To The Latest Version

Each upgrade is queued in the background and you’re taken to the status page to watch progress. You can do small batches or select everything - that’s your call based on how comfortable you are with the risk.

Once upgrades are done, run a new backup and start a fresh audit to verify everything is healthy. You can also remove leftover fluff files from Joomla automatically.

The same process works for WordPress sites not using WordPress’s built-in auto-updates. For a full walkthrough focused on WordPress, see the guide to bulk updating WordPress sites.

Team tip: If you’d rather delegate this to someone else, you can add unlimited team members to your mySites.guru account and assign them the upgrade task.

Bulk updates are covered in detail in our guide to managing updates at scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upgrade multiple Joomla and WordPress sites at the same time?
Yes - mySites.guru's Mass Upgrade tool lets you select any number of sites and queue all upgrades in one go, running them in the background while you do something else.
Should I back up my sites before running a mass upgrade?
Absolutely. mySites.guru includes a scheduled backup feature that lets you back up all connected sites at once before you trigger any upgrades.
What happens after my sites are upgraded?
You can immediately run a fresh backup and trigger a new audit from the dashboard to verify everything is healthy after the upgrade.

With over 260 Joomla websites linked at the time of writing this review, MySites.guru has been an essential part of my web design agency client support tools for many years. Knowing all websites are monitored and easily updated in one central location is something I almost can't consider in terms of the time it would take to manage all of this manually. In the rare occasion I've had to ask for support, Phil replies almost faster than I reply to my own clients, and that is almost unheard of! For the fixed monthly cost, it really is a no-brainer to have as a standard tool if you support your client websites on a long-term basis.

My Sites is such a great tool! It's a life-saver for us, with over 200 sites to manage it would be a nightmare with out it. We have tried a similar tool before but so happy we switched to mysites.guru. And Phil rocks with personal and speedy service!
