Upgrade 100s of Sites from One Dashboard

Upgrade 100s of Sites from One Dashboard

One of the most popular reasons for using mySites.guru is being able to upgrade Joomla and WordPress core across all your sites without logging into each one individually. Here’s how the process works: back up, upgrade, verify.

Screenshot of mySites.guru feature

After logging in, the left menu shows how many Core Updates are needed. In this example, 15 sites need a core update (and 59 plugins/extensions, but we’ll focus on core for now).

Go to the Scheduled Backups page and open the schedules tab. For Joomla, mySites.guru uses Akeeba Backup (free or paid, both work). You can back up one site at a time or click “Start Backup Of All Sites” to queue them all at once.

Backups are queued and run in the background - you don’t need to stay on the page. Once you’re happy everything is backed up, move to the upgrades. (Periodically test your restores too - an untested backup is just a file that makes you feel better.)

Open the “Mass Upgrade Sites” tool. It fetches available upgrade paths from your sites, which takes a few seconds. Select individual sites or click “Select All,” then hit the green button.

Mass Upgrade Sites To The Latest Version

Each upgrade is queued in the background and you’re taken to the status page to watch progress. You can do small batches or select everything - that’s your call based on how comfortable you are with the risk.

Once upgrades are done, run a new backup and start a fresh audit to verify everything is healthy. You can also remove leftover fluff files from Joomla automatically.

The same process works for WordPress sites not using WordPress’s built-in auto-updates. For a full walkthrough focused on WordPress, see the guide to bulk updating WordPress sites.

Team tip: If you’d rather delegate this to someone else, you can add unlimited team members to your mySites.guru account and assign them the upgrade task.

Bulk updates are covered in detail in our guide to managing updates at scale.

I'm absolutely delighted to have discovered this tool for my numerous Joomla client websites! It would have been almost impossible to manage them without it; and the rapid resolution of security issues and the clean-up following hacks are simply worth their weight in gold. I wouldn't want to be without this tool now - it's worth every penny!

I have been using Joomla since its inception and have a variety of standard components that I use consistently. Since this recent round of joomla attacks, mySites.guru has become one of those tools. In fact, putting malware aside, if you manage multiple website, this tool is indispensable. I will say, support has been good, though wasn't as pleasant as I would like during my first communication with Phil, but I believe it was mainly a misunderstanding and doesn't take away from the quality product that this company offers nor the work Phil puts into the work he does. If you read reviews about service, like I did when signing up, please keep in mind that the owner personally handles everything, and I assume most people contacting him are doing so when they are desperate, frustrated, or angry because their website was hacked; leading them to be pushy and perhaps this causes some tension so that should be understood. I wouldn't want to be dealing with hacks all day, and if I did, I wouldn't want to be dealing with stressed out website admins either. Anyway, the point with all this is, ignore the naysayers, Phil's a good guy, the tool is indispensable, and you will not regret signing up, especially if website security is important to you and if you manage multiple websites. I am now a lifelong user as long as Joomla exists.
