Snippets security vulnerabilities

mySites.guru tracks 5 vulnerabilities in com_snippets. Every connected Joomla site is checked against them on each audit, and flagged if it runs an affected version.

What we check for

MediumCVE-2026-888522026-09-13

Snippets (snippets) 10.0.0 to below 11.0.0 - Authenticated Stored XSS via Snippet Variable Overrides

Regular Labs Snippets 10.0.0 through 10.0.6 is affected by CVE-2026-88852, fixed in 11.0.0 (released 13 September 2026). Snippet variable overrides could be set by any user able to author content, letting a lower-privileged author change the values a snippet renders and inject script through them. 11.0.0 restricts variable overrides to selected article author groups by default. Exploitation requires the ability to author or edit content containing Snippets tags, so this is an authenticated stored XSS. Update to 11.0.0 or later. Note that 11.0.0 is flagged by the vendor as a BC BREAK: the restriction is enabled by default and has to be re-opened deliberately per author group, so any site relying on variable overrides should review those settings after updating. As at 13 September 2026 the CVE record(s) for this advisory are RESERVED and not yet published, so no official CVSS score exists yet and the severity recorded here is mySites.guru's own assessment, to be revised when the records go live.

Affected versions: ≥ 10.0.0 and < 11.0.0

Regular Labs Snippets (com_snippets) <= 9.3.10 - Broken Access Control and Search Index Content Disclosure

Regular Labs Snippets up to and including 9.3.10. Administrator actions, editor popups and import/export requests lacked consistent token, item-permission and input-validation checks, so unauthorised backend users or a CSRF attack could expose, create or modify extension configuration and items (CVE-2026-63684). Smart Search indexing could also store restricted content in the public search index (CVE-2026-64792), and the shared Regular Labs AJAX endpoints lacked consistent CSRF and permission checks (CVE-2026-63265). Fixed in the Regular Labs security release of 22 July 2026 (10.0.0). Note this rule matches the com_snippets component deliberately: the plugin element "snippets" is also used by the unrelated "Page Builder CK - Snippets" plugin.

Affected versions: ≤ 9.3.10
